More than six years ago I joined up here for the purpose of making something I thought I could believe in. I was young, inspired and impressionable. I sat at my desktop wondering at all of the beautiful pieces of artwork that this website beheld. The starry, brilliant galaxy renderings and the wonderful dark art works of people like Mellon and Fealasy. It was wonderful.

To a kid who didn't know much, hell; to an adult who knows most everything. This was a beautiful place, once. It was full of ideas and new people. Granted for the first year or so I was nothing but a Jhonen Vasquez clone with a bit of Giger thrown in.

For a few years it was great. My favorite artists then are still my favorite artists now; my all-time favorite being Horrormove. I love her work. Beyond that, things haven't been so great. I've gotten so out of touch with this place that it's almost sickening and for the most part, I think my reasons are solid.

When an artist here gets popular the main things that continue to happen are::
-They stay the same, continuing to create original and wonderful work
-They sell out and make the same artwork over and over again.
-They draw 5-minute Ruby-Gloom wannabee art and turn them into retarded comics.(you know who you are)
-They drew Furry Art with decent shading... got instant fame from pre-teen assholes and continued to rip off mainstream pop-culture by turning it all into furry versions of itself.

Seriously, in around two years this place went from being the most hustle and bustle area of the art world to a website categorized right next to 4-chan on the "shitty website" list. The site's overall downfall came from allowing everyone in rather than the people that deserved it however it probably realized this yet could never find a way to overcome it. It makes me want to vomit to see Agro art sitting right next to something beautiful when the entire site gallery is clicked to "most popular".

I still make art, mostly for companies and private clients. I will never post another piece of art here. Cheshire is a joke. Plain and simple. The entire fiber of it's being was to troll the entire website by posting a remake of a popular character which is drawn in no way, shape or form any better than the rest of my work. It's actually drawn worse and in a lower resolution than the rest of my work.

-Not getting any attention
-Posts his rendition of a pop-culture icon
-Gets over 800 favorites

-_-;

That's not a good thing, that's proof that the entire site is biased towards things it's already familiar with, rather than new ideas and concepts. A good 80% of the most popular deviations on this site are all redesigns of already familiar artworks from other artists. Mine is a good example.

Quite honestly, Deviantart lost a supporter when I left and to be honest. It's better off without me and all of the rest of the middle-range artists(5,000+ pageviews) that frequent this site. It doesn't deserve any of us.

Gas is treating me just fine. I got rid of the Audi and I now drive a 2008 Subaru Impreza. I use regular gas and get 28 miles to the gallon on average. I would say it's brand new, but I bought it brand new in May and it's not May anymore.

How's gas/life treating you?
